The IT giant Google recently held its Google for India event, during which it announced new AI-related announcements and other things.
Google revealed at the event that it is attempting to recognize and understand doctors’ handwritten prescriptions.
In a statement, the company announced that it had “started working on the complex process of detecting what is written on medical prescriptions by establishing an assistance model to digitize it for medical healthcare practitioners.”
The feature is still in the research prototype stage and is not yet available to the general public.
The feature, which was demonstrated by a Google executive at the event, would enable customers to either take images of
the prescription or upload it from their photo library whenever it is launched.
After processing, the image will identify the prescription-listed medications.
“This will operate as an assistive technology for digitization of handwritten medical records by augmenting humans in the loop such as pharmacists, but no decision will be taken simply based on the output provided by this technology,” the business stated in a statement.
