On the 6th of July, the CEO of Meta launched the long-awaited Project 92 called ‘Threads’. 

Threads, sometimes hailed as a serious Twitter rival, experienced an astounding rise in popularity, gathering over 30 million users in just 18 hours.

Due to its distinctive features that allow users to publish short and long overviews and repost other people’s content into their own feeds, Threads has been extensively acknowledged by numerous media publications as a potential “Twitter killer” as there was the ‘Twitter Vs. Threads’ trial all over the internet. The app’s functionality and design have struck a chord with a sizable number of users, leading to its quick uptake and widespread praise.

Ever since its launch, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has been very vocal about how similar Threads is as compared to Twitter and there has been quite a bit of rivalry.

1. Character Limit

One of the most distinctive aspects of Twitter is its character limit. Tweets can now have a maximum of 280 characters, up from their original restriction of 140. Users are required to summarise their ideas, messages, or updates in a concise and straightforward manner. 

Unlike Twitter, the character limit for Threats is 500 which gives more leeway for its users to post explanatory content.

 

2. Real-time Updates

Twitter is well-known for its real-time updates, and tweets are shown in chronological order on followers’ timelines. The platform is very famous as a site with the latest news, announcements, and scandals. As a result, users are able to stay up to date on the most recent news, events, and trends as a consequence.

Threads is more of a continuation of Instagram. Users typically talk about their experiences, stories, and current events.

 

3. Sign-up and followers

One can sign up or create their own account individually on Twitter through their Email ID or phone number. You can individually follow accounts of your choice.

In order to to be on threads, one has to have an Instagram account and the platform is more of an extension of Instagram. Once you set up your Threads account, you can automatically sync your Instagram followers and sends a follow request to the connections you follow on Instagram. 

 

4. Engagement Metrics

Engagement on Twitter is measured through the number of likes, retweets, and views (impressions). The success/relevancy of a tweet totally depends upon these engagement metrics. 

Engagement on Threads is measured through the number of likes, reposts, quoting posts, and the number of shares.
